The Main PALAPA
The MAIN PALAPA is a wood building with of 2 floors + a mezzanine (Kitchen/Common space/ Dormitory of 6): Ocean view, Stairs, 6 beds, bamboo wall on the dormitory corner for more privacy.
The ground floor: 9m x 6m = 54m2
The shared kitchen is 6m x 3m = 18m2, it is made of piedras canteras at the bottom, reinforced concrete at the middle, decorative blocks with air flow.

2x huge swinging windows (hook to keep them open), it can be used like a bar. when closed, a 2 inch space has been left under to add wood boards.
Grey Water filter system: First filter of 1m3 to separate solids / grease, then a Second filter of 2m3 volcanic rocks + Plants, then it goes in a tube on the land.
The Dining area: Common lounge space: 6m x 6m = 36m2
1st floor: 10m x 6m = 60m2
2nd floor: Mezzanine of 3.5m x 2.5m = 8.75m2

THE PRIVATE PALAPA
The Private Palapa (capacity 2 people – Queen size bed): Ocean view, Ladder, wood box to secure luggage with a lock, bamboo wall on the back for more privacy.
The DORM 4
The Palapa DORM 4 (capacity 4 people: 2 bunk-beds): Ocean view, Ladder, 4 wooden boxes to put the luggage and secure it with a lock.
WATER : The structure and management
The water tower structure has been designed to support 10’000 kg
The current tank is 2500 Litres + backup barril of 208 Litres. It’s connected via a 3/4 inch PVC tube.
In El Transito, the water provided by the city (Enacal) is happening during 2 hours every other day, meaning:
Monday = 2 hours of water
Tuesday = NO WATER
Wednesday = 2 hours of water
Thursday = NO WATER
…
With the current tank, it works for 10-14 people living on the land.
WC - 2x dry toilets
The dry toilets have urinal diversion, the tubes are connected with the tube of the sink to wash your hands cleaning and pushing on a 20 meters perforated tube going down the land (never had bad smell from this place).
They are elevated as there is half barrels recipients under each, we use sawdust, we drop the content into the compost place located 30-40 meters further.
The PILA (built in 2016)
The pila was built in August 2016 to store 6000 Litres of water to water the fruit trees in the dry season (December until May).
It has a 2nd connection to the water provided by the city (1/2 inch PVC tube).
We also used it as a big bath / mini swimming pool at the begining

Grey water filter
The grey filter is used to filter the water coming out of the kitchen.
it has 2 recipients:
1st recipient 1m3: to separate the grease and the solid
2nd recipient 2m3: filled with volcanic rocks and aquaponic plants to filter the water.
Then a 2 inch PVC tube run into the land, goes into smaller perforated tubes to water the front of the main palapa.
REST OF INFRASTRUCTURE:
- The Staff house: built with blocks, metalic door and windows, zinc roof
- 2x Shower (without roof)
- Compost place
- Secured wood box to store the building tools.
LAND IMPROVEMENT:
- Retention wall: we started to build the retention wall. it helps redirecting the water where we want it to pass by.
- Erosion control: We planted Vetiver to avoid erosion and protect the Palapas.
- Drain: For the main Palapa, we dig a tranche and installed a 5 inch perforated pipe to avoid water infiltration.
- Natural Fence: We planted pinuelas + cactus + veraneras to start making the natural fence.
- Irrigation system (we have a tubing system with holes to water more than half of the fruit trees)
- 5x Coco (6 years old) + 8x Coco (1 year)
- 3x Plantains + 4x Bananos
- 1x Grocera + 2x Lemon + 1x Orange + 4x Goyavas
